I wonder how many times we have been warning the public, governments, media, academia, politicians, civil society, ...
A well-known colleague, quite exasperated at the end of his lecture by the general worldwide apathy and inertia, addressed the audience: "What's wrong with all you people??"
I remember saying, with regard to the migration crisis, that we had been seeing the problems coming our way for a long time. People just looked on or the other way. In the meantime, the migration problem came closer, and closer... People continued looking the other way. When the issue was at our doorstep, all everybody could do (experts, media, governments, academics, politicians, civil society) was whine, whine and whine because no one knew what to do! Pathetic.
The lesson that should have been learnt from countless previous occasions (i.e. history) is that because of the fundamental interconnectedness of all "things", to be effective preventing or solving a problem necessarily requires a global interactive approach. A global solution requires a NGGI based on trust...!
A NGGI must be in place ready for any other global challenge that may come our way.
The issue today is that the global solution that is needed now is impossible for lack of a global governance tool because of procrastination.
Fortunately, there is an increasing recognition worldwide for the need to set up a highly articulate platform to facilitate global coordinated multi-stakeholder collaboration worldwide. This recognition is now overwhelming and is probably around 99%. This means many, many people... What was - and is - needed was/is the need to act and stop dreaming. This is also coming around. So what is preventing everyone from working together and set up a NGGI based on trust where the referential is the citizens' well being and quality of life at interconnected personal, neighbourhood, local, regional, national, continental and world levels?
Nothing.
The UN and EU Systems are completely out of their depth and quite helpless regarding the world situation that has become unmanageable and out of control. We offered to help them and deeply regretted it:

The UN and EU Systems have had their time. Time to move on. Time for an alternative. Before it is too late...
