Area of Interest:
Dissociation and complex partial seizure-like symptoms in depressed
patients. Somatoform dissociation in depressed patients according to our
research in 151 subjects is closely related with complex partial
seizure-like symptoms. These psychosensory symptoms of complex partial
epilepsy are most often related to subcortical limbic epileptic discharges
measurable by psychological and psychophysiological methods. About 16% of
these patients satisfying criteria for epilepsy spectrum disorder are
probably positively indicated for anticonvulsant therapy and used
diagnostic methods are suitable for pretreatment prediction. In the
general theoretical level the term dissociation is also in important
relationship in the study of schizophrenia and mechanisms of conscious
integration. It is related to modern findings in cognitive neuroscience.
